My Top 10 Favorite TV Shows

Hi guys, unfortunately we’re all stuck at home these days and the stress is mounting up by the day as we keep seeing the numbers rising. Every morning, I wake up to numbers: the number of new cases, the number of new deaths, and the number of new recoveries. It’s very morbid and my heart goes out to all those healthcare workers who have to deal with the horrors on a daily basis and are being kept away from their families.

We need to stay home to flatten the curve, but there are solutions to overcoming the boredom. One of my favorite things to do when there is too much stress in the world is either read one of my favorite books or binge watch my favorite TV shows, so today I am going to tell you my favorite 10 TV shows and where you can watch them. In case you missed it, I posted a blog last week about my top 10 favorite YA books. And if this is your first time to my site, welcome! Check out my about page to learn more about me and feel free to roam around the site.

Bones

Dr Temperance Brennan, a forensic anthropologist who works at the Jeffersonian Institution and also writes books, has an impressive ability to read clues from victims’ bones. Consequently, law enforcement calls her to assist with investigations when remains are so badly decomposed, burned or destroyed that standard identification methods are useless. Brennan often finds herself teamed with Special Agent Seeley Booth, a former Army sniper, who mistrusts science and scientists when it comes to solving crimes but who has developed respect for Brennan, both professionally and personally.

This show was one of my favorites. It has 12 seasons, all of which you can watch online on Dailymotion.

Merlin

This action-packed fantasy-drama revisits the saga of King Arthur and his wizard, Merlin, by focusing on the two characters when they were ambitious young men struggling to understand their destinies. In this telling, Prince Arthur is known to be the heir to the throne (no sword from the stone here). And he is acquainted with all those who will one day form the legend of Camelot, including Lancelot, Guinevere, and Morgana. Merlin is also forced to deal with King Uther’s Great Purge, which bans all use of magic.

This was a show that I really enjoyed because it had fantasy as well as great friendships and characters you learn to love. It aired for 5 seasons, all of which you can watch on Netflix.

Reign

Queen of Scotland Mary Stuart travels to France with four ladies-in-waiting to secure her politically strategic engagement to the king’s son, Prince Francis. Mary and Francis share a mutual attraction, even though he has reservations about the wisdom of an alliance with Scotland. Complicating issues is Bash, Francis’ illegitimate half-brother whom Mary finds herself drawn to in spite of herself. The French Court is also full of less romantic challenges for Mary, who finds her engagement — and life — threatened until she finds an ally in a mysterious shrouded guide. With all that she faces, Mary rallies, readying herself to rule and trying to find a balance between the demands of her country and those of her heart.

This show is full of drama, romance and suspense. It was a great show to keep you intrigued. There are 4 seasons of the show, all of which are currently on Netflix.

Vampire Diaries

The lives, loves, dangers and disasters in the town, Mystic Falls, Virginia. Creatures of unspeakable horror lurk beneath this town as a teenage girl is suddenly torn between two vampire brothers.

This show is based on the books by L.J. Smith. While I usually am one to say the books are better than the on screen version, this is one exception where I liked the TV show more than the books. There are eight seasons currently on Netflix. I’m personally a fan of Damon. You’ll have to tell me which Salvator brother is your favorite after watching the show. 😉

Supernatural

This haunting series follows the thrilling yet terrifying journeys of Sam and Dean Winchester, two brothers who face an increasingly sinister landscape as they hunt monsters. After losing their mother to a supernatural force, the brothers were raised by their father as soldiers who track mysterious and demonic creatures. Violent memories and relationship-threatening secrets add additional burdens on Sam and Dean as they investigate all things that go bump in the night. As old tricks and tools are rendered useless and friends betray them, the brothers must rely on each other as they encounter new enemies.

I couldn’t possibly create a list of favorite shows that didn’t include Supernatural! Even if you’ve seen all 14 seasons, you can always watch them again. This one is also available on Netflix.

Lucifer

This series follows Lucifer, the original fallen angel, who has become dissatisfied with his life in hell. After abandoning his throne and retiring to Los Angeles, Lucifer becomes carefree and enjoys life — until a murder takes place outside of his upscale nightclub. For the first time in billions of years, the murder awakens something unfamiliar in Lucifer’s soul that is eerily similar to compassion and sympathy. Lucifer is faced with another surprise when he meets an intriguing homicide detective named Chloe, who appears to possess an inherent goodness — unlike the worst of humanity, to which he is accustomed. Suddenly, Lucifer starts to wonder if there is hope for his soul.

There are four seasons currently on Netflix of this show, all though I’m still on the second season. So far, it has been very interesting to watch.

Beauty and the Beast

While investigating a murder, Detective Catherine Chandler, discovers a clue that leads her to Dr. Vincent Keller, a man who supposedly died in Afghanistan in 2002. She realizes that she has met him before, years earlier when he saved her from an assault that left her mother dead, and that he suffers from a condition that causes rage to turn him into a monster, which has forced him out of society. Catherine agrees to keep his identity secret in exchange for his help untangling the truth about her mother’s murder. Their partnership turns out to be a dangerous one, as they battle a powerful attraction that threatens to destroy them both.

This was such an interesting show! It was similar to Bones but with a supernatural element. There are four seasons on Netflix currently.

Once Upon A Time

“Once Upon a Time” tells the story of a new world, one in which fairy-tale legends and modern life collide. Emma Swan is comfortable in her life as a bail bonds collector when Henry — the child she gave up a decade earlier — suddenly shows up. He is convinced that she is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, who sent her away before the Evil Queen could cast a spell, freezing the fairytale world in time and bringing them to present-day Storybrooke, Maine. After taking Henry home, Emma decides to stay in the town to keep an eye on him, and she discovers he may not be wrong after all.

This is a great show to watch if you like fantasy and fairy tales. All seven seasons of the show are available on Netflix.

Gilmore Girls

Set in a storybook Connecticut town populated by an eclectic mix of dreamers, artists and everyday folk, this multigenerational drama about family and friendship centres around Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter, Rory. Lorelai owns the town’s bed-and-breakfast, the Dragonfly Inn, with best friend/chef Sookie, and contends with weekly dinners with eccentric, well-off parents Richard and Emily Gilmore (who always have something to say about their daughter’s life). After high school, Rory attends Yale University but frequently returns to Stars Hollow to visit her mom.

Part of the reason I loved this show was because me and my mom are close too so I loved that Lorelai and Rory had a strong bond in the show. There are seven seasons currently on Netflix.

Haven

FBI Agent Audrey Parker arrives in Haven, Maine, on what she believes is a routine assignment. But the longer she stays, the more curious she becomes — about the townspeople, who seem to be beset by a range of supernatural afflictions; about the town itself, which contains many secrets; and about her own surprising connection to this strange place.

I really enjoyed this show! It was full of mystery, drama and romance. There are currently five seasons on Netflix.

That’s 10!

There are so many more great shows I could list, but then we’d be here all day. 😄 Those were my favorite TV shows.

So, tell me, what are your top 10 favorite TV shows?

Hi Manisha. Thank you for sharing.
iZombie was really good! Still on season 2. Funny you mentioned The Witcher, that has been on my watchlist for a few weeks.

Hi Sunaina. Great list. I have plenty of new shows to watch during quarantine now. Here is my top 10. You may notice a trend in raunchy comedies.

    1. Southpark. Been watching this since I was a kid. Maybe too inappropriate for an 8 year old, but I turned out fine (I think). The writers always make jokes about current events so in a way this was how I would get my weekly news growing up.
    2. Atlanta. Written, produced, and starring Donald Glover. This show is funny, real, and deep about life in Atlanta and the hip hop industry.
    3. Chapelle’s show. A skit T.V. show from one of the most brilliant comedians of all time, in my opinion. A lot of pop culture references that shaped this generation are embedded in these episodes.
    4. Ramy. An inside look about what it’s like growing up Muslim in America; how to shuffle traditional values with modernization.
    5. Rick and Morty. A cult favorite in the scientific community. Rick and his grandson Morty save Earth in various dimensions and alternate realities, and have some fun while doing it.
    6. Aqua Teen Hunger Force. A large fry, a milkshake, and a meatball save the world on the daily.
    7. Sex Education. A high schooler, whose mom is a sex therapist, gives advice loosely to his schoolmates, until a girl finds a way to profit on his knowledge sharing.
    8. Boondocks. 2 kids growing up with their grandfather face life in the suburbs with revolutionary ideas and a thug mentality.
    9. Letterkenny. A dialogue heavy show about life in a small town in Canada. The main character literally fights to prove he is the toughest man in town.
    10. Workaholics. 3 best friends try to balance the day to day life of working their day jobs and partying.

Hi Lance. Thank you for sharing. I’m glad you liked my list! I feel we can always benefit from new recommendations. I haven’t seen any of these yet but I’m inclined to check them out. We can use some comedy in life right now.

    Hi S.K!

Wonderful choices ! You can tell that you are a big fan of the fantasy and mystical beings! Love that! I am too.

I was IN LOVE with Damon for a very very long time after Vampire Diaries. Honestly, I don’t think that love will ever go away lol

      Hi Pam!

Thanks for commenting. My tastes definitely skew in the the direction of fantasy; in reading, writing and TV shows.

Damon is the best! I’m rewatching the series now and still love Damon. He’s the perfect example of a bad boy with a good heart.
