Welcome to my virtual housewarming party!
Why am I Blogging?
Thanks for taking the time to check out my blog, or as I like to call it, my virtual house. My name is Sunaina Kaur Nijjar, but for convenience, I write under the name SK Nijjar. Find out more about me here. One of the first things people ask a writer is when did you realize you wanted to be a writer. As cliche as it may sound, I’ve always liked writing. Whenever we’d have to write a poem or personal story in class, I’d be excited while everyone else was complaining. This made me a weird kid, but whatever, I don’t think there’s a such thing as normal. I first started writing novels when I was in high school, and I’ve been an avid reader since I was able to read. I’m one of those bookworms that gets so involved in a book that when it ends, I feel depressed and sad. And then really excited when the next book comes out! I mainly enjoy reading series for this reason, so that you get to spend more time with your favorite characters.
Like many writers out there, I’ve been writing stories and leaving them to collect virtual dust in the google docs drawer. Now, I’ve had enough of that! I’ve been an avid reader for many years and I have enough confidence in my stories and characters to share them with the world. When I started writing novels in high school, I wasn’t able to follow through on finishing my stories. I was too busy studying, binge watching Bones, or hanging out with friends. When I did have the time, I often got stuck and would eventually put it away. I have found my writing again, but it’s now more than just a hobby. Writing has become a need of mine. I need to write like I need to breathe. I’ll discuss this more in future blog posts.
What to expect with this blog
My goal with this blog is to provide an insight to where I get my inspiration as well as posting some interesting myths I’ve come across as a writer, and excerpts from my current works in progress. I’ve been thinking of blogging for a while now, as in for the last few months! I kept researching as much as I could but now I finally decided to just stop researching and just start. My blog post most likely won’t be perfect right now and I’ll probably read them years from now and cringe but everyone has to start somewhere, right? Please bear with me as I explore this new form of writing. Writing fiction is a lot different than writing blog posts, as I’m sure many fiction authors will agree. In my books, I have a mental film playing in my head and I just have to write it out as I see it, but when blogging, there are no characters talking and moving around nor are there any breathtaking settings to describe. It’s just my thoughts and a blank page that I need to fill with those thoughts. I will be a slow blogger, meaning I will post one blog post per week. Every Friday at five, a new post will be up.
