Spirits of the Immortal Realm

Hi guys, being that it’s Halloween month, I figured this is the perfect time to do a blog post about the spirits of the Immortal Realm! For anyone that’s new to my site, welcome to my virtual home!

Can anyone become a spirit?

This was an interesting question to consider because I didn’t want there to be only evil or vengeful spirits but also nice ones too. So what have I come up with? Well, as I mentioned in a previous post, when someone is killed with a sword forged in a dragon’s breath, their soul is intact and they can come back as a ghost, but not without some help. 

There are three ways that someone can become a spirit in the Immortal Realm. One is if they were very angry when they died, then their soul does not move on until they calm down and decide what they want to do, meaning do they want to stay in this world or move on to find peace. The second way to become a spirit is to have an earth witch bring you back after your death, but this has to be done within 48 hours of death. Finally, the third way to become a spirit is if you die with regret. In your dying moment, as you’re taking your last breaths, if you feel like there were things that you should have done, then you can come back as a spirit for 45 days to try and finish what you need to do. 

Can everyone in the Immortal Realm see spirits?

No, not every Immortal being can see spirits. The ones that can are witches, gnomes, dragons and anyone who has witnessed death. I’ve always found it strange that in some movies or books, only one character is able to see the spirit and that makes everyone else think that the character is either insane or lying. I wanted to create a balance between everyone being able to see them and only a few people being able to see them and this seemed to work for me. They do not appear with wounds that they had when they died but they are wearing the clothes that they died in and are slightly translucent, but not enough that you can see through them.

What can spirits of the Immortal Realm do?

Thinking of what these spirits would be capable of was a lot of fun. They are able to touch living people, but only for five minutes a day. They are also able to move objects around as long as they don’t weigh more than fourteen pounds. This means that they can write letters for their loved ones that can’t see them if they want to tell them something. They can move through walls and doors but not people. If someone bumps into a spirit, they will feel it. One last thing, and this is the best part in my opinion, although I may be biased, is that they are able to retain one ability from when they were alive. This means that earth witches may still be able to grow plants or a mermaid might still be able to see someone’s future through the water.
